Lawyer Fun

Before I head off for the holidays, I wanted to share two quick items:

1. Evidently, Britney Spears is suing US Weekly for $20 million over their allegation that Ms. Spears and her husband, Kevin Federline, "feared the release of a secret sex tape, which they had viewed with their estate planning lawyers."  ABC News has the story here.  I think Ms. Spears has a good case -- in my experience, estate planning lawyers are rarely called in to view secret sex tapes.

2. Last night's episode of "Arrested Development" featured an appearance by Scott Baio as attorney Bob Loblaw.  In the episode, we learned that Mr. Loblaw also has his own website, known as (what else?) The Bob Loblaw Law Blog.

Hi. I found your site after searching for Alzheimer's +undue influence on Technorati. My wife and her sister are involved in a will contest in St. Petersburg, FL right now. Their father, Harry Lieffers, Jr., suffered from Alzheimer's, and was living in an assisted living facility in Grand Rapids, Mich., 2003. Then a realtor who was selling Dad's Florida home flew to Michigan, and assisted dad out of the ALF. They flew back to Florida, and to an attorney's office where the daughters' powers of attorney were revoked. Two weeks later, the attorney executed a new will which gave the bulk of a million dollar estate to the realtor and his girlfriend. The girlfriend is the attorney's niece.

I was reading your post from last summer about the Trent case, and you mentioned that these types of cases often come to "who you are" versus "who you say you are". That comment helped me make sense of what realtor's attorney has been saying about my wife and her sister.

Anyway, here is a link to a St.Pete Times news article about the will contest. I'd be interested in hearing your take on this.
